Sukhiyan is a typical kerala tea time snack. Its usually available in the local tea shops. Its very simple & easy to make & this is one of the favourite tea time snack.
Ingredients
Cherupayar/Green gram - 2 cup
Sharkkara/Jaggery - 1 1/2 cup
Grated coconut - 1/2 cup
Cardamom powder - 1/4tsp
Maida/All purpose flour - 1cup( Here l used wheat flour instead of maida)
Water - 2 1/2 cup
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Salt to taste
Coconut oil - 3 cup
Method

Soak green gram for 4 hours.
Wash thoroughly with water.
Pressure cook the green gram with 2 cup water and a pinch of salt for about 10 minutes or 2 whistle.
Open the lid of the cooker and cook the green gram till the excess liquid is dried off.
Heat a pan and melt the jaggery along with 1/4 cup of water. Strain this with a strainer.
Heat the strained jaggery in a pan for 5 minutes and add grated coconut, cardamom powder and mix well.
Now add cooked green gram and saute well till the mixture is dry. Remove from the heat and allow to cool. Take small portions of the mixture and make small balls from it.
Take a bowl and mix maida, salt, turmeric powder and 1/4 cup of water to make a thick batter.
Heat coconut oil in a pan.
Dip each ball in the maida batter and deep fry till golden brown.
Tasty Sukhiyan is ready.
