Kuttanadan Beef Roast

Kuttanadan Beef Roast is a traditional beef dish cooked in Kuttanadan style.Its a spicy beef roast, house boat beef receipe.

Beef - 1 Kg, cut into small pieces
Onion - 2  Medium sized  finely sliced
 Ginger - 2 tbsp finely chopped
Garlic - 1 ½ tbsp finely chopped
Green Chillies - 5 Nos, slitted
Pepper Powder - ½ tbsp
Coconut slices - ¼ cup
Coconut Oil - 3 tbsp
Curry leaves - 3-4 sprig
Water - ¼ cup
Salt to taste
Note: Adjust the quantity of green chillies and pepper powder according to your taste.
For Masala paste:

 Onion - 2 Medium , finely chopped
 Ginger - 2 tbsp
 Garlic - 1 tbsp finely chopped
Green chillies - 5  finely chopped
Turmeric Powder - ½ tsp
Coriander Powder - 2 tbsp
Chilly Powder - 1 tbsp
Garam Masala powder - 1tsp
Cumin Powder - ½ tsp
Curry leaves - 1 sprig
Salt - ½ tsp
Vinegar - 1 ½ tbsp
Coconut Oil - ¼ cup
Water as required

Directions

Step 1 - Masala paste preparation:

Heat ¼ cup oil in a heavy bottomed pan, add chopped onion, ginger, garlic, green chillies, curry leaves and salt which are mentioned under 'For masala paste'; Sauté till the onion turns light golden brown in color.
Lower the flame, then add all powders mentioned above in 'For Masala paste' . Fry till the raw smell goes...
Then add vinegar and combine well .Remove from fire and allow to cool completely.
Make a fine and thick paste of the prepared masala by adding very little water.

Step 2 - Cooking beef in pressure cooker:

Clean and wash the beef pieces. Drain completely.
In a pressure cooker, add the beef pieces and the prepared masala paste, ¼ cup of water and mix well.
Sauté for 2-3 minutes, then close the cooker and cook till 3-4 whistles or till the beef is cooked well.

Step 3 - Beef Roast Preparation:

In a heavy bottomed big pan, heat 3 tablespoon of coconut oil; Add coconut slices and fry till light golden color.
Then add finely sliced onion, chopped ginger, garlic, slitted green chillies, half of the curry leaves and sauté till the onions turns light brown in color.
Now add the cooked beef along with the stock into this and combine well. Check for salt at this stage.
Roast the curry on medium heat, till the gravy thickens and the oil starts separating.
Now add the remaining curry leaves, pepper powder and mix well.
Remove from flame, close it with a lid and keep covered for 5 minutes; Serve hot.
