Koorka Mezhukkupuratty (Chinese Potato) Thrissur Style
Koorka Mezhukkuperutti" is one of delicious side dish with rice. Cleaning koorka is bit difficult . But once cleaned, the recipe is so simple to make and very delicious too. Give it a try.....
Ingredients
Koorka- 2 cup
Red chilli flakes-2 tsp
Turmeric powder -1/4 tsp
Small Onion-10 to 12
Salt-to taste
Coconut Oil-2tbsp
Curryleaves-2string
Water-
Method
Wash koorka properly and remove the mud from it ..
Then peel the skin using a peeler or knife.
After cleaning, wash them again and cut into small pieces..
Pressure cook koorka by adding salt, turmeric pd and enough water to cover the pieces..
Or u can cook in a covered vessel ..Don`t over cook it.
Remove the excess water after cooking.
In a pan heat 1 1/2 tbsp of oil and add the sliced small onion,when it turns light brown add crushed chilly ,add curry leaves also..
Now saute them well until the raw smell of chilly go.
Then add the cooked koorkka into it and mix slowly and saute …
Saute them in another 10 to 15 minute in low flame ..
Remove from the fire and add 1tsp of coconut oil and some curry leaves and close the pan for 2 minutes..
Now transfer to a serving bowl .
Tasty koorka mezhukku is ready to serve..
How to clean Koorka
There are various way to clean and scrape the skin:
Put into a jute bag or sack and beat it on the ground several times or till the skin peels off and then scrape off the remaining skin using knife. (or) Wash and pressure cook with the skin for 1 whistle and then later on peel off the skin. (or) Soak them in water for an hour or so. Then scrub them on the stone.
