Whole Wheat Butter Nan
Butter Naan, a butter flavored flat bread is one of the most extremely delicious dish of Indian breads. This is usually made in tandoor, can also be made on stove top and oven.
INGREDIENTS (measuring cup used, 1 cup = 250 ml)
Whole wheat flour/atta : 3 cup
Sugar : 1 tbsp
Instant yeast :1/2 tsp
Water : 1 cup or as required
Curd/yogurt : 3 to 4 tbsp
Softened butter : 2 tbsp (unsalted or salted)
Salt as required
Butter as required for spreading on the naan
INSTRUCTIONS
In a bowl, take the instant yeast, sugar and add water and stir the mixture.Add this to whole wheat flour and then salt, butter and curd/yogurt.knead to a soft and smooth dough. If the dough become sticky, add a few tbsp of flour and knead again. If its dry, then add some more water.
Cover the naan dough and keep aside for 25 to 30 minutes.
Divide the dough into medium balls.
Give a resting time for the dough balls for about 15 to 20 minutes. Cover and keep aside.
Lightly dust the dough balls with some flour. We can also sprinkle some sesame seeds on the dough ball and then roll it.( optional )
Roll it to thick triangular shape and make them ready. ( do not make it thin ). To get very soft Naan, I prefer stove top method. ( also we can bake it in oven ).
Heat a girdle or tawa ( preferably cast iron one)
Place the rolled Naan in the hot girdle to cook.
When the bottom is partly cooked, flip. you will see bubbles on the naan.
When the second side is cooked, remove the naan with a pair of tongs and place it on wire rack or put it on direct flame side which was cooked first facing the fire.
After one side puffs up, flip the Naan over to the other side.
Keep the flame in medium to low heat ( take care not to burn the Naan
Flip it over and cook on both sides.
Once we see brown spots on the Naan, remove from heat.
Place the hot naan in a roti basket or casserole. Spread some butter on top.
Make naans this way. Nans are ready to serve.
