Crab Curry


 Varatharacha Njendu Curry ( Crab Curry)
A typical Kerala style seafood delicacy with great aroma and taste. This spicy and flavorful kerala style crab curry  cooked in roasted and ground coconut gravy goes well with hot steamed rice...

Ingredients:
 Crabs, cut into pieces - 1Kg
 Grated coconut -1/2 of one coconut
 Onion -  2
 Coriander pd- 4 tsp
 Red Chilli Fried powder 2 1/2 tsp
 Turmeric powder- 1/2 tsp
 Shallots (pearl onions) -7 to 8 cut into pieces
 Garlic -  6 Piece
 Tomato- 2 Chopped
 Green chillies - 4 to 5
 Ginger -1 piece finely chopped
 Pepper Powder - 1/2 tsp
 Fennel seed-  2 tsp
 Curry leaves
 salt for taste

For Seasoning:

 5 to 6 shallots, chopped
1 sprig curry leaves
Coconut  oil

 Method

  Heat a pan, add grated coconut along with fennel seeds,  shallots, Garlic and curry leaves and dry roast till get it brown. Add coriander pd, red chilli  powder , turmeric powder. Switch off and. Grind it to a fine paste adding little water and keep it aside.
    Clean and cut crabs into pieces and put it in a clay pot.  Add tomato, Onion, green chillies, ginger chopped. Then add the coconut paste with water and add salt. .
    Cook with low flame for 20 minutes and   add the Pepper Powder. Remove from flame.
    Heat oil in a pan. Add chopped shallots and curry leaves, stir well and add this seasoning to the curry and keep covered till you serve, so the gravy absorbs all the flavors.
   Delicious  Nadan Njandu/Crab Curry is ready.Serve with steamed rice, roti or with appam...Enjoy!
