Kozhi Mulakittathu

Kozhi mulakittathu is a traditional Malabar dish. This curry goes well with ghee rice, pathiri, porotta, idiyappam, etc.

Ingredients

Chicken, cut into pieces - 1 kg
Coconut oil as needed

Onion    - 2 big
Garlic paste / chopped- 1 tsp
Ginger paste/ chopped  - 1 tsp
Green chillies, chopped - 3 nos
Tomatoes, chopped - 2 big
Salt as required

Coriander powder - 1  tsp
Turmeric powder - 1/4 tsp
Kashmiri chilli powder- 31/2 tbsp
Garam masala powder - 1/2 tsp
Curry leaves - as needed

Cardamom2 nos
Clove1
Cinnamon small piece
1 pinch fenugreek seeds
5 nos shallot chopped
1 sprig curry leaves
Salt
Coconut oil

Method:

Wash and clean the chicken well.

Heat oil in a curry vessel ( chatti),when oil becomes hot add fenugreek seeds and saute well. when it splutter add cloves, cinnamon ,curry leaves,then add finely chopped onion, garlic and chopped ginger. Stir well till onion turn translucent.

Add finely chopped tomatoes and green chilly. Stir in a high flame. Once the tomatoes are fried well, lower the flame and add chilly powder and turmeric powder. Saute well till oil separates.

Once the oil comes up add the cleaned chicken and salt. Stir well for few minutes .

Add sufficient water and cardamom. Cook well(the gravy is not too thick or too thin). Stir in between.

Once chicken cooked well,Mash chopped shallots in 2 teaspoon pure coconut oil and add this into the gravy . Cover with a lid, lower the flame and cook for few more minutes.

Serve hot .....
